Ultrasound

"I'll never forget the first time I saw my baby move – five months
before she was due. It was a real relief to know she was
developing normally."

Ultrasound is another valuable, non-invasive imaging procedure used
at Iowa Radiology. Ultrasound uses sound waves to produce diagnostic
images of fetuses and internal organs.

To have an ultrasound, you simply lie down
and expose the area that is to be scanned. A
conductive gel is applied to your skin to help
the technologist's probe, called a transducer,
take clear pictures of each area. The
technologist will move the transducer over

the area, occasionally applying pressure, but there is no other
discomfort involved.
