Breast Biopsy (Stereotactic or Ultrasound-Guided)

"When I was faced with needing a breast biopsy I had anxiety over the
procedure, and some fear of the results. The ladies at Iowa Radiology
soothed my fears. The biopsy only lasted a short time – there was no
surgery, no scars, and I drove home afterward."

If a doctor identifies an abnormality in your mammogram, he or she
may suggest a breast biopsy to gather more information.

Iowa Radiology offers both stereotactic and ultrasound-guided
biopsies, both of which are non-surgical and non-scarring. Both
procedures allow you to return home immediately upon finishing.

Stereotactic Biopsy

Ultrasound-Guided Biopsy

In both procedures, the breast is anesthetized and a needle is
inserted only once in the biopsy area. Stereotactic biopsies use
low-dosage x-rays, like mammograms, to determine the biopsy site;
ultrasound-guided biopsies use sound waves to locate the area.
